Kate Spade's Glitter Cake

Kate Spade has used desserts for her Live Colorfully campaigns before, like in this 2009 ad.
But when the company commissioned art director Ely Kim to come up with this video for their January Red collection, they really came up with something fabulous. It's making me smile today.

I wish all makeup had such delicious origins, don't you?

If you missed this Kate Spade-inspired dessert table, be sure to check it out now.

  1. All I want to know is...is that CGI or can I make one too? I know exactly when I'd do it! Thank you so much for such an inspirational post!

  5. Noblekatt,

I think we'd have to just really throw a ton of edible glitter into the batter. We could also add some edible jewels to each piece once it's plated, right before serving it to each guest.

  6. Gorgeous! I have a party to do and the theme is wizard of oz and the color theme is based around her red glittery shoes!! This would be AMAZING to do! One thing, how would you do it?! :) I might try the 'whole ton of edible glitter' thing, but I am not sure if the baking process would dull it.

  7. If the baking process dulled the glitter in the cake, could you just cut the pieces in advance and kind of "crust" the cut sides with the edible glitter?

  8. Hi Kristin,

I agree with Tae. If you are using cupcakes, you could dust the frosting with edible glitter. If you're using cake, you could sprinkle glitter onto each slice right after you cut it.

You could also brush a glitter & flavored extract solution onto iced cookies to add a shimmer.

Be sure to send pics. I'd love to see a Wizard of Oz dessert table. How fun!

    Best,

    Shauna

  9. Awesome! The transition of the lipstick color tells how a slice can brighten anyone's day. If only there is a slice for everyone, then no one would be wearing a long face all day.
