My Little Donut

If you've been following the Sweet Tooth blog for a little while, then you know that I planned to tackle making a donut for my daughter's Halloween costume. I was inspired by this Pottery Barn Kids costume, but the $60 price tag was a little more than I was willing to spend for a couple of hours trick-or-treating.
With a little trial and error to come up with the best practical design, I created this costume. As a Minneapolite, I designed the costume to go outside of her peacoat. Luckily, her little coat was the perfect shade of pink to coordinate with her ensemble.
I made her headpiece, although I opted to leave off the dollop of whipped cream shown in the inspiration photo for fear that it would just look like a giant blob on top of her head. I modified a candy bucket I found last-minute at Target. I covered the black skull design with a miniature donut replica to coordinate with her outfit.

After we made the rounds, we gave out candy to the other kids circling our neighborhood. We saw a girl dressed as Where's Waldo and two boys dressed as the Hamburger Helper glove.
So tell me, did you dress up for Halloween and what was the best costume you saw?

Eeek!! Great job with the costume. I respect the decision not to succumb to consumer pressure - prices for children's costumes have gotten ridiculous. She looks adorable!!

Hi Natasha,

I spent $7.82 for a savings of $52.18! I admit though, I already had the brown "donut" fabric on hand from a previous project. I believe it was only $1.99 per yard and I used less than half a yard for this costume.

Thanks for asking and for commenting!

Best,

Shauna

She is too adorable...I just want to eat her up!

The most memorable costume we saw was a lit-up lady gaga outfit. When we closed the door, the first words out of my mouth were "if you're old enough to dress as lady gaga, you're probably too old to go trick-or-treating" (just mho).

I didn't get to see many outfits, because I was busy bathing and putting to bed our own little butterfly.
