Guest Desserts: Under the Sea Birthday Dessert Table

I'm warning you now, you're going to totally swoon over this sugar-y, aquatic-themed dessert table. Why, you ask? Let me count the ways.

1) Eboness Belin of Fleur de Lis Events design this bash for her daughter Emerald's 3rd birthday.
2) Her daughter's name is Emerald (so cute!)
3) There are a ton of pretty aqua-hued sweets.
4) Did I mention Emerald?

A ruffle cake, star fish cookies, rock candy, and cotton candy? What more could a little girl wish for? I know, salt water taffy and shimmery gum balls. That's what.

Eboness: I used inexpensive crystals to line the edges of all of the mirrors that the cookies were served on. It transformed ordinary, to "phenomenal"!

Eboness has a few tips to share for those of you tackling a DIY dessert table:
- I used lots of clear acrylic risers on the dessert table to add visual interest with varying heights and to make the desserts appear like they were floating underwater.

- Create your own vision of what you'd like your party to look like first and use that as your guide (Pinterest board, photos on a bulletin board, etc).  Don't be afraid to be different- your design ideas are yours so explore what "you" envision to come to the final result.

- Start early in planning your party. You'll discover tweaks that need to be made along the way as well as unexpected 'aha' moments that will encourage you to carry on when you are tired, or discouraged.

Eboness created this Sheer Bliss Chiffon Chandelier when she couldn't find a more sophisticated option in stores or online.

from Eboness: [T]his piece was truly a labor of love. Light and floaty, the chiffon circles offer a dreamklike aesthetic, and certainly transport you to a different place. I offer it in my Etsy shop for others going for the same look. It can be used in a nursery, baby shower, or wedding!

more from Eboness: I created the design on Publisher and printed myself on pre-boxed plain wedding invites.  The border had a satin/pearl finish which played into the theme quite nicely.

Guest Desserts: Nicely Neon

As an 80's baby, I'm well-versed in everything neon. And while it was fun then, I must admit that neon looks much better this decade, especially when paired with neutrals. Mariana from Yum Eventos in Argentina sent this cute display of electric hued sweets for a baby shower that she styled.

From Mariana: This is a baby shower I put together for a very intimate get together for a glowing mommy to be with this fashion forward and trendy neon party. Fun fluorescence! Mixed with bold brights, chevrons, saturated stripes, and washi tape. I styled it together with bright whites and a contrasting neutral beige so that the colors would pop even more. As well as neon washi tape accents to coordinate with the graphic decor.
More From Mariana: The dessert table included sparkling water (H2oh baby).  Mini glasses with striped straws and coordinating flags.  Triangle shaped brownies to go with the chevron pattern on the invites.  Delicious lemon cupcakes with meringue topping.  Dulce de Leche Alfajores, a typical Argentinian tasty treat.  The backdrop was created with a neon string heart, tassels in neon, brown and a bright turquoise.  All put together with a neutral background (very simple kraft paper! total DIY).
Favors wrapped in mini glassine bags with a coordinating printable tag was a tassel jewelry piece that could be used as a bracelet or a cute accent necklace for the party.

Thank you for sharing the creative design with us, Mariana! If you'd like to submit a recipe, dessert table, or other sweet treat for Guest Desserts, be sure to check out how.

Guest Desserts: Farewell Fete

Sweet Tooth reader, Rowaida, is back at it. She's submitted pics of her dessert tables before, and this time she's made lots and lots of cakes. Rowaida creates dessert tables just for fun, unveiling them at family gatherings and small parties with friends. This time, the spread was for a farewell party for some friends.

from Rowaida: I baked a 4 layered white cake and decorated it with flowers that I made from flower paste and a 4 layered Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting and sprinkled with gold stars. I made mini Pavlovas, Chocolate meringue with chocolate mocha mousse, Dark chocolate truffles ( Rum, Chilie and Cinnamon flavors), White chocolate truffles (Green tea and Rose flavors), Tarts with creme patissiere topped with blueberries and Sugar cookies ( flower bouquet and butterflies).

Thanks for sharing your sweets with us, Rowaida! How lucky for your friends and family that you love to bake.

Guest Desserts: Marc Jacobs Dessert Table

I recently received a Lola-inspired dessert table submission from stylist Kimberly Lawson. Using Marc Jacobs' latest fragrance to influence her design, she teamed up with culinary artist Mai Giffard, and photog Vanessa Cabrillas of Nes Photographs to bring the creation to life.

Kimberly asked me to give her some feedback about her design, so I'm piping up with my two cents.
I love the color palette and that the inspiration wasn't in any way food related. Often, I'll see dessert tables that were inspired by someone else's dessert table. With that said, I think there are some parts of your design that you could tweak to make it even better. While I love the tall tissue poms and apothecary jars of candy, they overshadow the cake, which is your centerpiece. If your client requests a small cake, consider elevating it on a cake stand or platform. You know I love lilac, so the color of the cake is lovely to me, but it is one of the palest items on the table, again, making it easy to overlook when surrounded by bold colored sweets and a busy background. Just compensate for these things in your design so you can better guide the client's eye as they take it all in.

Thanks again for sharing your work, Kimberly!

Guest Desserts: Little Witch Dessert Table

The ladies at Confetti Couture submitted this vibrant, girly Halloween dessert table for today's Guest Desserts feature. Confetti Couture makes lots of cupcake wrappers and cake pop kits to help you decorate your dessert displays.

Qeryldine, co-owner of the company, describes their design in her own words:

This whimsical table includes a bubbly citrus soda, Frankenstein cake pops, chocolate dipped hologram cookies, and caramel apples. Sweetly spooky!
The inspiration for this table comes from our Little Goblins collection of "Dessert Skirtz" cupcake wrappers. We hand paint/design these decorative wrappers and have found a bazillion different ways to use them.

Thank you so much for sending in your submissions, ladies! You did a great job!

Guest Desserts: Cake Banner Printable

Melissa of The Faux Martha has submitted a couple of great Guest Desserts goodies to Sweet Tooth, and she's back with another one. This printable cake banner's "Congrats!" message can be used for birthdays, weddings, graduations, really any celebratory event. In case that sentiment doesn't really fit your intentions, there's also a blank version of the banner that you can print on pretty patterned paper and add your own message.
Thanks for another great Guest Desserts submission, Melissa! I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Want to give this simple DIY a try? You'll only need a few supplies. And, if you have a recipe, project, or giveaway to share, check out the Submissions page to see yourself featured on Sweet Tooth.

How-to:1. Make a chocolate chip cake, or another one of your choosing.
2. Pick out some pretty scrapbook paper. It needs to be able to run through your printer and light enough in color so you can see the ink when you print.
3. Download the cake banner template.
4. Print the template on your pretty paper.
5. If you have crayons lying around the house, pick one color and do a little shading within the letters.
6. Trim out leaving the edges visible. (We’re going shabby chic here.)
7. Adhere banner to skewers or something similar.
8. Adorn your cake and celebrate!

Guest Desserts: Lavender Cupcake Recipe

I LOVE lavender foods! I tried these lavender macarons and designed this dessert table that had lavender lemon marshmallows and white chocolate lavender cupcakes, so I was thrilled when Natalie of Half Dozen Designs submitted this recipe for lavender cupcakes.
Want to get the recipe and try Lavender Cupcakes for yourself?

Guest Desserts: Princess Party

Mariana of Yum Eventos submitted this dessert table that she designed for a little girl's birthday. Mariana, a graphic designer from Argentina, infused lots of princess and fairy details to make the birthday girl squeal. You'll love the paper patterns she created to customize this design. Crown cookies, chocolate bars, and mini cheesecakes make wonderful treats for young party guests.
Here are just a couple of the paper patterns.
Did you like those papers that Mariana designed? You can visit her Etsy shop, Las Feliz Celebrations, to buy them for your own table. Thank you so much for submitting your design, Mariana!

Guest Desserts: Beautiful Baptism

Punky of Box of Sweets submitted these pics of the dessert table she designed for her niece's Baptism a few months ago. You may remember this black and yellow buffet of hers that I shared on the blog last year. Well, this table was the first that Punky made for an actual event, and she chose a pink, violet, and yellow palette. A fondant cake, cupcakes, and candies fill out the table, while flowers accent the design.
Thanks so much for sharing your work with us, Punky! Congratulations on your first real event. I hope you have many more in the future.

Guest Desserts: Little Miss 5th

Norkys of Sweets and Pretties kindly submitted this table that she created for her daughter's fifth birthday. A simple frosted cake is made perfectly girly with a DIY-able heart cake topper. Macarons, cupcakes, and cake pops sit alongside strawberry malt balls, meringues and drinks.
Do you have a Guest Desserts feature to share? Great, check out the submissions guidelines here.
