DIY No-Sew Little Donut Halloween Costume

Remember that time I hastily made a donut costume for kiddo?

Well, she's grown up a lot, but I figured the tutorial was still Confetti Pop-appropriate. I even tweaked the process to make it easier, cheaper, and faster. All you need is $7, 30 mins, and zero sewing skills. That's right, you don't have to sew a single thing!

Sweet Idea: DIY Donut Hole Croquembouche

Remember yesterday when I tweeted, Instagram'd, and Facebook'd about my (and kiddo's) love for donuts? Well, here's even more proof. A couple of weeks ago, I whipped up this donut hole croquembouche for a Confetti Pop shoot for Rue Magazine.

Our team of pros were in full effect for the entire shoot. We teamed up with paper antler and Studio Fleurette, who I lurv! On to the croquembouche. Check out the pretty pics, then hop over to Confetti Pop for the tutorial.

National Donut Day! Hurray!

When I say, "Free!" you say, "Donut!"

Run, don't walk, to your nearest donut shop and take advantage of National Donut Day goodies. Lots of chains, like Krispie Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts, are giving away free donuts today. I know, it's pretty exciting. This time only comes once a year, and here are a few great donut ideas to keep the holiday alive year round.

Donut Teacher Appreciation Printable

It's almost the end of the school year, and I was mulling over ideas to give kiddo's teacher to show our gratitude for them. Of course, I wanted to do something inexpensive, since we've already done something for Christmas and Valentine's Day, so I'm jazzed that I came across this free Teacher Appreciation printable from Confetti Sunshine. Sara is one of Confetti Pop's contributors, and you can see just how crafty and creative she is. Fab idea, Sara!

DIY Donut Tower

I love simplicity and towers of sweets, so this donut tower is right up my alley. Simply stack powdered donuts on a lovely cake stand, tuck in some fabric/paper/felt flowers for a pop of color, and just wait for the guests' oohs and aahs to roll in. What a great twist on a croquembouche.

DIY Elf Donuts

Everyone thinks of leaving cookies for Santa, but what about treats for his miniature helpers? These tiny "donuts" for elves are just the cutest seasonal goodie. Using Cheerios, chocolate, and sprinkles, The Unconfidential Cook created sweets fit for an elf.

Simply roll the cereal in powdered sugar or cinnamon to create the non-sprinkled version. Easy, inexpensive, and creative. You can't beat that.

Coffee & Donuts Cupcakes

Well, this is a lovely combo, isn't it? Check out these coffee flavored cupcakes topped with sprinkled mini donuts by Always With Butter. What more could you ask for? Perhaps a cup a icy milk.

Halloween Treats

It's that time of year, which means everywhere you turn there are ghosts, witches, and black cat decorations. In fact, yesterday at the mall, I saw a kid dressed in full Batman (The Dark Knight era) gear. Ah, to be a kid again. Anyway, here are a few Halloween-y treats that are simple, but would be totally appreciated by the kiddos.

Tutorial: Halloween Donut Tree

I love donuts for all kinds of parties. Need proof, just check out this recent donutty posts I wrote. Well, I'm back with another idea that incorporates the childhood treat. One Charming Party featured this inexpensive, easy donut tree craft in perfect time for Halloween.

All you need is a styrofoam cone, which you can get in the floral section of most craft stores, frosting, a large pastry brush, and toothpicks. Simply coat your cone with a thin layer of frosting, insert toothpicks, and hang donuts. Voila!

This is such a quick, simple project that you could easily complete it the day of your Halloween bash and still have time to relax before guests show up.

Dessert Table: Donut Wedding Shower

When couples plan a co-ed shower, it's nice to have treats that everyone can love. Let's face it, not many guys swoon for finger foods and tea. This shower featured on A Beautiful Mess focused on a donut dessert table, which is perfect! A chalkboard backdrop labels the different varieties so guests aren't left guessing.

Inviting kids to the festivities? Even better, because they'll love 'em, too.

Ombre Donut Cake

I've seen plenty of dessert tables that feature cakes and donuts. I've even seen donuts stacked to resemble tiered cakes, but I don't know if I've seen a cake covered in donuts before. This one by Sweet and Saucy features iced donuts in subtly different shades of orange.

Week In Review & Mini Donuts

I've always believed that virtually anything is cute if it's small enough, whether it's a dog, a baby shoe, or in this case a donut. Mini donuts are popping up everywhere, and they come in some of the greatest colors. I love the aqua donuts with the pink linens.

This week on Sweet Tooth:

We daydreamed about these strawberry marshmallows and s'mores.
I'm still not convinced that these super-detailed buttons are really candy.
I had fun filming this tv segment about wedding dessert tables.
This gelato dessert table was awash in lovely pastels.
We loved these twists on classic chocolate chip cookies.

Week In Review & Behind-the-Scenes

It's been a busy, but wonderful week. I've got some fun behind-the-scenes pics from my stint on the KARE 11 Today show that photog (and super friend) Emily Steffen kindly shot. The host Pat Evans, was really sweet.

On Sweet Tooth:

I made my first TV appearance on KARE 11 to share this pink, tangerine, and aqua Valentine's table.

Pink and gold won me won on this shimmery Valentine's Day dessert table.

This Cinco de Mayo dessert table was the perfect balance of cultural and classy. 

We chatted on Facebook and Twitter about this golden heart shaped chocolate cake.

I interviewed the owner of Sweets Bakeshop to find out what their plans are for their new shop.

My Little Donut

If you've been following the Sweet Tooth blog for a little while, then you know that I planned to tackle making a donut for my daughter's Halloween costume. I was inspired by this Pottery Barn Kids costume, but the $60 price tag was a little more than I was willing to spend for a couple of hours trick-or-treating.

With a little trial and error to come up with the best practical design, I created this costume. As a Minneapolite, I designed the costume to go outside of her peacoat. Luckily, her little coat was the perfect shade of pink to coordinate with her ensemble.

I made her headpiece, although I opted to leave off the dollop of whipped cream shown in the inspiration photo for fear that it would just look like a giant blob on top of her head. I modified a candy bucket I found last-minute at Target. I covered the black skull design with a miniature donut replica to coordinate with her outfit.

After we made the rounds, we gave out candy to the other kids circling our neighborhood. We saw a girl dressed as Where's Waldo and two boys dressed as the Hamburger Helper glove.
