I loved these giant cake balls earlier this year, and I'm loving the wintery ornament-esque twist applied to these ones by Cotton & Crumb. The intricate, detailed iced designs pop beautifully against shimmery, almost iridescent backgrounds.
I say, "Bring on the shimmer!"

Cake Balls of Every Size
I'm kind of in love with this twist on cake balls. This creation by Maki's Cakes showcases cake balls of various sizes nestled on a tiered stand. It's cool that the balls have different piped designs, but the variety of size really allows guests to grab one to fit their appetite. I mean, who says that a cake ball has to be golf ball sized?

When Cake Marries Cake Balls
It seems that every client I work with lately wants either cake or cake balls. This pastel spectrum cake by Brew Ha Ha offers both in every bite.
What do you think of this hybrid dessert? Is it too much of a good thing or do you wish every cake was enveloped in a layer of cake balls?

Dessert Table: Modern Bohemian Bash
I just may have to eat my words. Although it seems I predicted the pooch at a party trend pretty accurately, I didn't think we'd see too many horses at dessert table shoots. Well, this romantic, bohemian bash featured on 100 Layer Cake and designed by Nancy of So Happi Together and Melissa of The Loveliest Day does indeed feature a pony at a party. Along with this shoot, today's post makes two ponies in less than a week!
I love the custom bottle labels and cupcakes toppers featured here. I'm also a big fan of cake pops, cakes, and macarons, so this spread is right up my alley. There are frosted, mini cupcakes on the dessert table, but unfrosted large ones serve as seating cards at each place setting.

Dessert Table: Graphic Goodness
Photographer Mylene Chung of Photo Kitchen captured this bold dessert table by Diana Louise "Punky" Porca. It's not often that you see this black, white, and yellow palette for a wedding, but the bridal couple made a daring, gorgeous choice.
This design is proof that a dessert table doesn't have to be elaborate or full of exotic desserts to be a bold centerpiece for any event. The color palette does most of the work here. Graphic black and white gets a burst of color from punches of intense yellow.
Be sure to check out Mylene's post for even more sweet pics of Punky's dessert table.

Dessert Table: A Blast From the Past
This dessert table looks yummy, and honestly, what dessert table doesn't? But it's made even more delicious by the way it was shot. The lighting in each shot makes the food look like it's part of a yellowed, dog eared vintage poster. Couldn't you just imagine finding these images in the attic in a dusty, old shoebox?
This casually-arranged display was created by Sweet and Saucy Shop, and the pie pops, candy apples, and chocolate cakeballs all compliment the homey look of the buttercream-frosted, heart-topped cake.
Those little pie pops appear to be growing from a planter lined with Spanish moss. What wonder what seeds you have to plant to make that garden grow. Yum! Which treat is your favorite?
Have a great weekend!

Dessert Table: Intimate Garden Party
I came across this beautifully simple garden party dessert table on Inspired By This. I'm really into the idea of celebrating the bonds of family and friends for no particular reason at all. It's always great to slow down and make some time for each other without having to worry about buying a new outfit, brushing up on your dancing skills, or thinking up socially-acceptable conversation topics for the slew of weddings, birthdays, and holidays we go to every year.
This aerial view is as pretty as the frontal image. Powder blue popcorn cups, light pink cupcakes, and white chocolate cake balls are the kinds of comfort food that childhood is made of.
You can just see how comfortable the guests are, and how effortlessly fun this non-event event was.
An intimate, backyard party among loved ones means no pretense, no awkward small talk, and no seating charts, or lengthy guest lists. So tell me, have you ever thrown an intimate party? What was your favorite memory from that day?

Dessert Meets Design: Nonpareil Magazine Feature
I'm so excited to share the Alice in Wonderland-inspired dessert table I designed for Nonpareil Magazine's fourth issue with you. These lovely images were shot by my friend and fab photog, Tricia Little of Sweet Shibui.
Rather than design a flowery, tea party I chose to interpret Tim Burton's moodier version of the film, with its woodsy, cloudy, overgrown setting. Read more about my interpretation in the article. I also designed some great printables for the issue, so be sure to grab those.
I hope you enjoy my ode to this classic tale.
Stay tuned. Tomorrow, I'll share some of the pics that didn't make it into the issue.
The entire fourth issue is a tour through various films reinterpreted by wedding industry pros, so be sure to flip through every beautiful page.
